Instructions for Rehydrating Dehydrated Sourdough Starter

Instructions for Rehydrating Sourdough Starter

Day 1: Put the dehydrated sourdough starter in a quart sized jar with 15 grams of water and leave in a warm place with a cloth jar cover in place or a paper towel and rubber band.

Day 2: Add 20 grams of flour and 20 grams of water to the rehydrated starter and leave in a warm place with a cloth jar cover in place or a paper towel and rubber band.

Day 3: Repeat day 2’s instructions

Day 4: Your starter may have some bubbles or little holes throughout indicating that it is active.  Begin to feed with approximately 1/2 C of flour and 1/4 C warm water.

Day 5: Discard about 1/2 of your starter and feed with approximately 1/2 C of flour and 1/4 C warm water.

When your starter is active (bubbly and doubling in size after feeding), you are ready to bake!

Bone Broth Hot Chocolate

Bone Broth Hot Chocolate

2 c bone broth (as plain as you can have it)

Lighten with heavy cream or 1/2 &1/2

2 spoonfuls cocoa powder

Sugar, maple syrup, or honey to taste

Pinch of salt

Splash of vanilla

I know it sounds gross, and I was skeptical at first, but now I look forward to it. It really does not taste anything like chicken broth.

Potato Soup

Happy December! It is cozy soup season. Here is my recipe for potato soup.

Wash, peel, cube, boil potatoes for about 20-25 minutes. They will be fork tender when done.

Blend the potatoes and chicken broth to a consistency of your liking.

Add potatoes, chicken broth, onions, garlic, sour cream, & cheese (any kind you like - I love smoked gouda or cheddar) to a large pot and cook on medium. Add salt and pepper and any other seasonings to your preference.

I like to add crispy bacon on top of my soup.

Today I enjoyed mine with a sourdough grilled cheese sandwich.

Enjoy!

BBQ Meatloaf

Here’s my recipe for BBQ meatloaf:

1 lb ground venison

1 lb ground beef (we love Waygu)

1 medium onion

To your taste:

Salt

Pepper

Garlic powder or garlic cloves minced

BBQ sauce

Mush all your ingredients together well. It’s cold. It’s wet, but dinner will be good.

For a quicker cooking time, put in a muffin tin, and bake at 400 for 30 minutes or until internal temp is 165.

Enjoy!

November 1

November 1

Wow. This is my first blog on my own website. I’ve had a blog before years ago, but it wasn’t like this. I am in the process of building this website with a big dream of creating a business. I have so many skills that I want to share with others that I have learned by trial and error.

Speaking of trial and error, I made 2 beautiful loaves of sourdough bread today. I made my sourdough starter from scratch myself in May of last year. I also like to try things my own way, so the very first time I made bread, I didn’t give it time to rise. It was the flattest, saddest bread you’ve ever seen, but you know what? I didn’t quit. I went back to the recipe; I followed the instructions, and my bread got better and better over time. I have tweaked the recipe to my liking, and now my bread comes out like I want it almost every time.

My first loaf of bread and today’s bread are both mirrors of my life, of all of our lives probably. Not everything works out the first or fifth time, but I keep going. I am in the “keep going” chapter in my life right now. I am not where I want to be, but I can see a lot of growth in myself just as a person. Does the “keep going” chapter really ever end? No, I don’t think it does. I think sometimes we get to coast, but I am pedaling uphill right now to get to where I want to be.

I am so glad that you decided to come along on this endeavor with me as I learn more skills and teach you what I’ve learned along the way.
